Welcome to Normandy, France and 70 Years of History!

Bonjour and welcome to Omaha Beach Golf Club in Normandy, France. Yes, this is the same special place that thousands of brave United States soldiers gave their lives on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) during history’s greatest amphibious assault (Operation Overlord) which marked the start of the liberation of France and the beginning of the end to Nazi tyranny throughout Europe and the world.

Normandy and the French countryside is one of Caddyshack Golf’s favorite and unique vacation and instructional golf venues and contrary to what some may believe, the French are very friendly people. The French, like us, are divided with their leadership and the people of this wonderful land have never forgotten the fact that thousands of Americans gave their lives to give them their freedom. As you walk past the white marble cross tombstones at the American Cemetery, which is located at the top of the cliff that overlooks the Omaha Beach front, you can’t help be more than moved by the bravery and valor displayed by our troops who gave the ultimate sacrifice to us so we could live the life as we know it today. In sincere gratitude, the French granted the United States this parcel of land which sits this memorial and cemetery. When you are there, you are on United States soil. I can assure you; there isn’t a dry eye at the top of this cliff! The commitment and landing on Omaha Beach was highlighted in the 1998 Academy award winning Steven Spielberg film Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.

Down the beach head and on top of the cliffs now stands the Omaha Beach Golf Course. Omaha Beach Golf Course hosts thirty -six picturesque holes along the sea “La Mer” and across the rolling French countryside “Le Manoir”. As you play along the cliffsides of the sea course, you can visit the many German artillery bunkers, pill boxes and machine gun nests which our brave men overtook in close hand –to- hand combat. Immense courage was needed for these soldiers to crawl up the beaches and over the cliffs under heavy German gunfire to overtake these heavily fortified positions. As part of the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion, each of the holes at Omaha Beach Golf Club had been renamed in homage to the leaders including:

Hole #1 General Dwight D. Eisenhower
Hole #6 General Omar Bradley
Hole #8 General George S. Patton

And many other great leaders!

From Normandy, travel to the southern Bordeaux region to play golf and visit the many world famous wineries. The climate and soil in this region brings the millions of grape hectares to its perfect ripeness which leads to the finest wines for the entire world to enjoy!

Finish that perfect golfing trip back in Paris touring the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Champs Elysse, and the Louvre. Built in 1889 and having over seven million visitors a year, the Eiffel is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Needless to say, the Eiffel Tower is mesmerizing day or night. The Louvre is the world’s largest museum hosting many great artworks including the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.

If you are looking for that unique golfing experience, paying tribute to all that served during the Second World War, world class shopping and dining, fine wines, arts and culture, then France and the Omaha Beach Golf Course is the perfect place for you!
